The Woodland Garden (Tuesday 4th May 2021)

At present I am taking daily walks around the Woodlands Garden as it comes on apace, armed with a watering can or a camera. Newly flowering are these rock roses (Cistus incanus), found in the vine patch that faces up the driveway. Although these are cultivated, I believe they grow as a wildflower and so I am submitting them to Miranda1008's Wildflower Week.

With thanks to her for hosting.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Patterson Hood And Jay Gonzalez - Blind Willie McTell (2021)
I keep playing the Dylan ...Revisited disc that accompanied the June edition of Uncut. One that I under appreciated on first listen is this re-interpretation of Bob Dylan's tribute to the blues performer Blind Willie McTell, performed for Uncut by two members of Drive-By Truckers in separate studios at different times. Patterson Hood writes, "This is a Dylan song I had long heard of but only recently actually started listening to. It's become one of my all-time favourite songs - perhaps an all-time favourite song, period. When all this is over and I'm able to play in person with my band, I hope to work up a full-band version of Blind Willie McTell to play out live."
Dylan considered the song for his Infidels album and recorded a demo on which he plays piano and is accompanied by Mark Knopfler on acoustic guitar. He sings a series of verses of allegorical scenes that reflect on the history of American music and slavery, but the arrangement was never completed, and was unheard until the demo was released on The Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3 in 1991. Many other artists have recorded it including The Band, who included it in their sets throughout the 1990s. Their performances led to Dylan subsequently playing the song live at concerts some 226 times on his Never Ending Tour  between 1997 and 2017.
