Ta-da! I tried a slightly modified baguette recipe, and this is the result ... crumb in extras. They are delightfully chewy, thanks to Lidl organic flour at 88 centimes a bag. Now I'm working on two boules. The stakes are high as a fellow member of the Facebook sourdough group is invited for lunch tomorrow.

We did a big shop in the morning, with a rough ride home as the road is closed in Fabrezan for resurfacing. S decided to try a detour which involved a track through vineyards that looked as if it had been used for go-kart racing on a rainy day ... care was required. But following further investigation we now know of a much easier and shorter way, which is good news as the road's going to be closed for a month.
