City Rail Link

On Thursday 6 May we went on a tour of what will be the Aotea Station for the new City Rail Link.  It was fascinating to see the work being undertaken.  The main blip shows where the actual station will be located (top row) and where the tunnels are being constructed leading up to the station (bottom row). The extra tells the story of the painting on a safety wall between the footpath at the side of the street and the works taking place.  As you can see, the station will not be operational until 2024.  If only the mayor who proposed a public transport system over 40 years ago had been allowed to have his way, Auckland wouldn’t be in the situation it is today.  Also, the works would have been much easier to carry out and much, much cheaper.  At least it is happening now, thank goodness.
