Rainstopper

Since 1980, four years after the death of Franco, Asturias has been allowed to speak its name again (Franco, whose wife was Asturian, disapproved of it) and Cabranes has had a Festival del Arroz con Leche. In English, the Rice Pudding Festival. It happens on the second Sunday in May, so we´re on the lead-in to it now.
It´s been much curtailed and reorganised this year because of Covid 19, but at least it´s happening. The tree too has been heavily cut back because of some tree-disease, but at least, too, it survives.
Part of the tradition is that an umbrella is lodged in a tree in the Plaza del Emigrante. According to my fact-sheet, it´s an arce - according to my dictionary a maple tree, but it may be a plane. The role of the umbrella is to prevent rain from falling on the festival. It doesn´t always work.
So: you see before you an umbrella up a tree. The umbrella is in blue with a cross on it, which is the logo of the Health Service. This because our doctor has just been promoted and we´ve got a new one, and this is a tribute to them.
