Lady’s Smock

A morning trip to Foulshaw Moss, parts of which have a primeval feel (extra). The star attraction is the (distant) Osprey nest sitting above an old Scots pine. But it was great to see lots of hawking sand martins, and to hear lots of chattery sedge warblers. And the first bird we saw was a hobby - those martins will need to be watchful.

The ospreys no doubt fish in the nearby Kent Estuary, and in the afternoon we had a walk along the southern foreshore. The estuary provides the backdrop to the Lady’s Smock in the blip image. Beyond is Whitbarrow, (Foulshaw sits below it), and beyond that the hills of the Lake District,
