What Would You Choose?

Well I wanted some corn bread and a pasty for dinner, but I was tempted with a Belgian Bun too! I attended a wonderful U3A Zoom talk this morning by Colin Hards entitled My Family Under the Blitz. His grandmother lived in Dulwich and kept a detailed diary from 1st Jan 1939 throughout the war. Colin gave us her reflections on the blitz and the V1 and V2 rocket bombings, supported by some of her photos and other photos of war damage and maps showing the scale of destruction. He said 5,500 people were killed by the rockets and 16,000 injured. His grandmother’s house survived with blown out windows and ‘minor’ war damage, but it was amazing how nearby houses were completely destroyed. It only took V2 rockets 4 mins to arrive from launch and we had no defences and no warning was possible. Unimaginable to live like that and I hope Colin turns his grandmother’s diaries into a book. Then G popped round for a lovely socially distanced chat in the garden. Heavy rain was forecast for all afternoon but hasn’t appeared, despite some very black clouds.

Day 421 /  Day 30 of Step 2 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only
Boris has committed to a full public enquiry into Covid-19 within a year. Scotland is to move from Level 3 to Level 2 from Monday. The JCVI is considering a request by Greater Manchester to vaccinate all over 16s to ‘mitigate risks caused by the Indian variant’. US regulators have authorised the use of the Pfizer jab for 12-15 year olds. The NHS app in England (not the Covid-19 app) will be ready from Monday to support a vaccine passport for people who’ve had both jabs. A paper version can be obtained by ringing 119 (not your doctor).
