The View from the Bench

Back to the allotment this afternoon while the weather stayed decent for planting out the kale seedlings. That’s them in their individual lemonade-bottle cloches. Not many of the seeds sown weeks ago have sprouted, or if they did they’ve provided food for mice, voles, wood pigeons, slugs and snails, but I left off resowing for now and will get round to that once the soil has warmed up a bit more. Sad news though as I just heard that my allotment neighbour Andrew died a couple of weeks ago. He was a stalwart of the allotments and my ‘go-to guy’ for a myriad of growing questions over the years. This is the view from my bench of both our plots, his oversized hut dominating the scene!
