Phoenix

I came across a large tree trunk that had been partially burnt and became interested in the shapes and textures on it. Photographing black is tough going to be able to see the texture within. I played around with the balance of light and dark areas, looking for something interesting.

I liked this piece because there are three basic shapes which are interlocking, with plenty of variety.

I found the images from the sunlit side didn't really work. The unburned wood was bright orange, but the burnt black had no detail. The shadow side of the trunk worked much better.
