Clematis montana

Some years ago, when this clematis had run wild and become exceedingly tangled up with my winter flowering jasmine, I cut it back hard. It's only just beginning to recover and flower properly. Still far less abundant than it once was, but still a pleasure to see through the kitchen window. There's another one growing up through a tall holly tree at the back of our yard, which must be over 20 ft high.

My Extra is lilac growing in someone else's garden. (Ours stopped flowering years ago for some unknown reason.) Today would have been my mother-in-law's 95th birthday, and she would often say she was born to the scent of lilac, so this is in her memory.

Thanks to BikerBear for hosting Flower Friday. Have a lovely weekend, blipmates!
