Purple Iris

My intention was to get a macro shot of an iris petal, and the fly was an added bonus. Then I checked the white iris, and there were multiple cicadas, in different post-emergent phases.  Brood X cicadas are here, after a 17 year wait, and are starting to pop up out of the ground all around the yard.  In a few days the males will start singing, and the sound of summer will be hard to ignore.  Maryland is one of the 16 states that will be experiencing this miracle of nature.  I placed a close up of this rather large insect in extras.
