Church

We took a walk down memory lane this afternoon as we walked around the small Warwickshire village of Alveston. I was born and brought up in the adjoining village of Tiddington and that's where we started the walk.

This is the Old Church in Alveston which was rebuilt in the 18th century where the previous medieval church was sited. In the background is the old vicarage said to be haunted by a Bishop of Worcester.

This church was itself superseded by St. James' which was consecrated in 1839 although the Old Church is still used on Thursdays at 10a.m. from Easter until the end of October. It contains an Elizabethan wall mounted sculpture of Nicholas Lane, a knight of the period.

It bought back so many memories as we meandered round the village and a lot of those were of my late and deeply missed brother. Oh we had such fun as youngsters and it was lovely to be reminded of them.

Afterwards a refreshing glass of cider at a trendy bar / restaurant which in my childhood was just a dilapidated old barn where the farmer's sheepdog always gave chase to us as we furiously cycled past. How things have changed.
