Day at Bempton Cliffs

I set off at 7 this morning, with 2 friends from the library volunteer network. We'd arranged to have a morning out together at Bempton Cliffs RSPB nature reserve, looking at seabirds... and enjoying the novelty of an outing together.
Good thing we set off early: we got the last space in the car park, just after 9 a.m.
And what a morning. The sun shone, there was little wind, and it was blissful.
With the benefit of some helpful pointers from RSPB wardens on site, we did spot some puffins on the cliff (main image). As we were leaving, we were entranced to see a barn owl, hunting noiselessly over the fields near the car park. None of my images of this lovely bird are particularly sharp (extra). But we had a magical time just watching it, as it quartered the field (and eventually bagged its lunch).  Lastly, I've come back with many images of the graceful gannets. I think the one in this extra may already have an egg in the nest. Or is it a large pebble?!
