Part II

R. Sheepwash Esq, as some of you have already discovered, was a nobody, no notable achievements, not one. He gave a donation of I do not know what magnitude in order that the Primitive Methodist church on the corner of Magpie Hall Road and Mills Terrace could be built in 1893 with his name preserved on it for as long as it continues to stand. He wasn't the only donor, and “foundation” stones bearing the names of private individuals are visible all around the building. It is now the Sanctuary of Healing and I wonder whether the original “Go Fund Me” donors would feel a bit miffed about that.
This stone is round by the back door, and seems to be better protected from the weather. Either that or it's made of a harder-wearing stone. Hardly surprising that the architect, the builder and a “ranter” named Icke might have pulled a few strings in their own favour.

I feel rather sorry for Mr Sheepwash, I think he was fleeced.
