May Apples, a.k.a. Umbrella Plants, a.k.a. Mandrakes (Podophyllum peltatum)

I've Blipped these before. They're getting taller now and, if you look closely, you can see the single fruit that develops. As mentioned before, the whole plant is quite toxic if ingested....with the exception of the fruit, ONCE RIPE. It turns a yellowish color when it is ripe but CAUTION....if you don't get it just right, it will lay you low and may even kill you within 24 hours. Even if ripe, and not poisonous, the fruit is known to cause dysentery. Many locals make a jelly preserve out of the fruit...spread on toast it is quite tasty.
