Stuff and Nonsense

Mediterranean Gull #62

You can’t come to Norfolk on a birdwatching trip and not visit Minsmere and today was our day to visit. It looked a better choice to go as far south as possible as there was a lot more rain forecast for the northern coast.
As it turned out, we managed a relatively dry 4 hours but with very strong winds - around 50mph!
Luckily there were few people about and hides to shelter in.
We saw a good variety of species with another couple of geese varieties - barnacle and bar-headed - who both had two goslings. I didn’t think that bar headed geese bred in the UK and were mainly escapees, but this pair seemed to have managed.
Today’s new bird to add to my annual list was this Mediterranean Gull. If somebody hadn’t have mentioned that there was one amongst the black-headed gull, I’m sure we would have missed it. But I was happy to be able to find it. It was having a go as the BH gulls were getting too close.
I was disappointed not to see a Dartford Warbler as we probably won’t get another chance this week.
