Haweswater

Even more Unlocked

We drove to Haweswater to complete a couple more Wainwrights. Branstree and Selside. The walk was the least interesting we've done this week I think, because it was up steep grassy slopes with no trees or rocky outcrops, a bit featureless, but as ever great views from the top. The weather closed in at the top and there were flakes of snow for a few minutes. It was a cold picnic in the stone shelter on the top of Selside.
On the way down we saw a beautiful little tumbledown house/bothy with a great view over the lake.
LooseCanon's photo shows the bothy and mine is from a slightly different angle showing the little island.
Haweswater is  a man made lake caused by flooding the valley and villages of Mardale Green and Measand. It supplies water to Manchester.
Part of our way down was along the Old Corpse Road, where bodies of people who died in Mardale , which had no cemetery until the 1700s, were carried over to be buried in Shap.
An enjoyable day out despite the weather, especially the views of the lake.

Just watching Eurovision. I predict Norway will win.

Edit: wrong. Should have predicted UK would get no points, I’d have been on safer ground there.
