Golden-winged Warbler

Blipping early today so I don't forget again!!! Sheesh.

Today's goal was a golden-winged warbler and we got what we were after in spades. Not only did we find a very cooperative golden-winged warbler (male) we also found with it a blue-winged warbler female that seemed to be a pair. Golden-winged and blue-winged warblers have been hybridizing and producing two fairly distinct separate species they are calling Brewster's and Lawrence's (Laurence's?) I think. I don't understand all the details, but the sad part is it possibly spells the eventual end of the golden-winged warbler - having to do with recessive genes and a bunch of complicated stuff. A big part of the situation is climate change - the blue-winged are moving up to higher elevations that used to be the exclusive territory of the golden-winged.

Anyhoo - here's today's bird du jour.

Extra is the blue-winged warbler female. The blue-winged warbler is basically a yellow bird with bluish wings. The golden-winged is a grayish bird with bright yellow in the wing (and face).
