Dutch Skies

Heavy sky over Durdle Door, Dorset, UK.

The last day of the workshop meant an early return to Durdle Door and Man O War Bay. After two early mornings, I was tired and not looking forward to another dawn patrol, especially since it was raining. David and Jon took us to the location. Not much was said, except for David who told us he could just feel the excitement we all had for the task at hand.

We left the warm and dry car and got out into wind, cold and rain. Silently we walked to the location and started our fight against the elements. Setting up tripods on clifftops at Man O War Bay, constanly wiping lenses and filters, waiting for the one moment that would not come. Man, this was so not what I envisioned when we started our journey on Friday.

Luckily, my mood soon changed. OK, the weather conditions were not perfect, but good enough to get some decent images. I got some really nice exposures at Man O War Bay and even got some shots in for a panorama. Then I walked to Durdle Door and was quite pleased with what I saw. At the end, after receiving some more really helpful tips on focussing, I got this image.

Then it was time to get back to the hotel for breakfast and the last tutorials. Post production, panoramas, exposure merging were all covered and then it was time to view the images all the participants in the workshop had brought with them. All these great images of the others made me realize I still have a thing or two to learn. Great fun and really inspiring.

The moment had come to say goodbye to everyone and return to Bristol. There had been an accident near Bristol, which caused a "little" detour, but we managed to get to the airport in time. A quick snack, some waiting and then we were on our way home. Back in Amsterdam, Ton was finally reunited with his bag. During our drive home, we had lots of snow. Quite a difference from Saturday!

This has been such a great weekend. Ton, Herman and me are already working on plans for our next photography trip!

Better bigger!
