Snow + Goose = Greylag

This greylag goose (Question answer Anser anser) is doing its best to sit out the snow showers waiting for the nursery school to finish. That's when the mothers-and-toddlers will start to arrive with loaves of bread.

Another interesting bird at the park was a multiple-ringed coot. Apart from the metal BTO ring, it also had three coloured plastic rings!
I reported it and had a prompt reply which said that it was ringed on December 12th 2010 in Southport, Lancashire, in NW England.

I was able to see the rings because the coot was constantly being driven ashore by the resident coots who obviously enforce a strict immigration policy. I was also able to get a partial reading of the number on the BTO ring.

I have now put the image of the coot on Flickr .
