High Force

Monday 23rd May 2021

We had to be ready to leave the house by 9am and we were well on track ... until I went to pack the car and discovered a flat battery! I had left the lights on yesterday after the rain! Oops! A call to a recovery company soon sorted that out though and we were still out on time. Our last farewell to Beadnell.

Apart from about 10 miles early on, I tried to avoid the A1 and we headed literally across country, through Weardale, over the moors in into Teesdale to High Force. We managed the gentle walk through the woods to see the waterfall. The force of the water is amazing and there was enough to start the water flowing over the right hand side too, but not to the same degree.

After our picnic we headed off ... again cross country to enjoy the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rolling hills and valleys of the Yorkshire Dales, making it back to Leeds late afternoon.

Extra treats today:-
39) Travelling through Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
40) The freedom of driving the open roads of the moors
41) The thunder of the waterfall
42) Photographing birds of prey in their natural environment
43) Seeing lots of lapwings
44) The babbling brooks through the Yorkshire Dales
