The box says this is lepidolite from Brazil...I suspect it was bought with pocket money, possibly from the rock shop in Keswick. Lepidolite is a rare lithium rich mica mineral, legend has it that it is sometimes referred to as the “grandmother or the peace stone” because it is thought to have nurturing and calming properties. 

MC was an avid collector of rocks (and Wade Whimsies) when young and he amassed quite a collection of both which largely still languish here.
