Aurelius

Another new Roman Head sculpture along a stretch of the Antonine Wall.  The idea comes from stone distance slabs which the Romans placed along the wall to mark achievements of the Roman Legions.  Some of these are held in a local museum and a replica one is set into the rear of the statue.

The head looks out from the site of a fort looking across to "barbarian territory".   Nothng much has changed in that respect!

Although I took the usual set of images its not yet open to the public so I think I may go back and photograph it again when the barriers come down and its offically open.
