Swan Family

You can get really close to the swans up at the Heritage Park, unless you have a dog with you when the male swan can get quite aggressive.

I arrived at just the right moment as Maw, Paw and the weans were approaching the slipway. A spot of pecking at the weed and then mum settled herself while dad stood on guard. It didn’t take too long for the cygnets to disappear under mum’s spreading wings ..... plenty of snuggling up room for all.

An approaching gaggle of geese startled mum, she stood up very quickly, one after the other, her five cygnets dropped from her wings. Disaster averted mum settled down again and one of her babes quickly climbed back on board.
