Yaktrax

We had a couple of inches of snow yesterday morning, but by evening it was mostly compacted and just slightly soggy. Last night the temperature dropped way below freezing, so the slightly wet compacted snow froze into treacherous ice, which it was extremely difficult to walk on.

This morning I decided it was time to try the Yaktrax I bought after the bad winter two or three years back. They are absolutely blooming brilliant. Even on bits that looked like sheet ice they gave a pretty good level of grip. The only downside is that they aren't great on stretches of cleared pavement, so in town where alternate streets are completely clear and solid ice they are less good.

Still, I'll definitely be using them again on my way home. What a simple, brilliant idea!
