Middleton Lakes RSPB

I mentioned having visited Middleton Lakes a couple of weeks earlier but not being able to cross the canal because the area in front of it was just too muddy. This time, armed with new wellies and finding the ground far harder in any case, I made it over Fisher's Mill Bridge to the main lake after which the nature reserve is named.
Events had progressed with selling our father's house. We had exchanged contracts on the Tuesday, what was left in the house had been cleared on the Thursday, the cleaners had gone in on the Friday, and the Spotlight Kid and I had met up at the bare property on Saturday to go through estate paperwork, say goodbye to the neighbours, collect the keys to give to the agents and read the meters, ready for completion the following Wednesday.
That all accomplished we had driven over to Middleton for lunch, followed by a walk to Middleton Lake in the cold afternoon sunshine. After he had left to drive back to Dorset, I ventured along the towpath on the Birmingham and Fazely back towards Curdworth Locks, which we usually encounter walking in the opposite direction on our way to the Kingsbury Water Park.
The walk back to the car was half-an-hour longer than intended as I took the wrong path from the canal bridge and had to double back, and then I had problems getting out of the new wellies. The sat-nav ignored my instructions to go home via Henley-in-Arden and tried to send me to the M5, with the result that I ended up slightly lost in Studley and in the ensuing confusion got a speeding ticket. Pah!
