Anyone for Croquet

It's been a busy day.  I had a dentist appointment this morning which was followed by a visit to the hygenist. Ten minutes with the dentist, thirty with the hygienist and a hole in my credit card!

From there we went to Leamington Spa to visit Liz and Ian who were throwing a select pizza party for a group of ex-neighbours.  We arrived in time for an excellent lunch and a good catchup. After lunch and a drink it was decided to have a game of croquet.   Ann and I sat this out, though that didn't stop me taking pictures.  Croquet is an interesting game whose rules are a bit of a mystery.   It mainly comprises pairs of people both carrying long handled wooden hammers either standing waiting or bending over to move a ball they've just hit.  As I watched the game I sort of worked out the strategy.  It's a bit more than knocking balls through hoops, in fact that's far less important than knocking your opponent's ball to the other side of the pitch.

It seems like only Ian took the game seriously,  and of course his duo won when a time limit was reached, the game could go on for quite a long time.  Liz was trying out her phone camera in-between her turns. I quite like this picture of her taking a photo of John with a very interesting  expression on his face!

Oh yes, the background is part of their garden, not a jungle encroaching on them
