Mural

We decided to go into town after lunch to see what was going on Jubilee-wise.  As we were walking from the car park we saw a transformation at one of Stratford's busiest junctions.  There used to be a pub here many years ago, the Green Dragon, that changed hands and eventually became a 'gentleman's club'.  The sensibilities of the Stratford population being as it is, that didn't last long.  Eventually the whole building was pulled down leaving an unsightly area that would be snapped up by developers to build shiny new houses.  It remained, and still is today years later, an unsightly wild area.  The council finally clocked that all their lovely tourists arriving by train, and bringing their cash with them, were faced with this 'bombsite' on their way into town whilst waiting to cross the road.  So they put up a lovely black painted fence all the way around it, much better!  Today we stopped at the lights waiting to cross and was faced with a wonderful mural in the making. There were two people working away, a man and woman creating this colourful painting.  I was lucky there was a very brief break in the traffic when I was able to get a shot, the man was partly hidden by the lone car.  We congratulated the two on the great job they were undertaking once we crossed the road.

Regarding jubilee/bank holiday festivities, the centre of the town, which had been closed off to traffic, was heaving, everyone having a good time and buying food and drink from the various stalls.  We luckily managed to get an outside table at York's Cafe and watched the world go by as we drank our coffee.
