Mow Cop Castle

We walked fairly local today. We started near the church at Astbury just outside Congleton and walked up to top of the hill where the folly of Mow Cop Castle is situated. Now part of the National Trust's empire. It was originally built by the Wilbraham family who resided at Rode Hall nearby. It was always meant to look like a ruin. There's also a history of Primitive Methodist movement here too.

The views across Staffordshire and Cheshire are spectacular on a clear day. For us it was rather hazy today. Our walk involved fields and the Macclesfield Canal, which was where we enjoyed much of the shade. It was may be a tad too warm for me. We also had a bit of giggle at the Alpacas on a farm near the start of the walk. They'd been divested of their winter coats and did look rather skinny. But they probably felt so much cooler without them.
