Emergence

Last summer I watched as numerous mating pairs of damselflies laid their eggs amongst the weed in my small pond.  Yesterday I spotted a  damselfly flitting around the pond. This morning I was privileged to watch one emerge from its larval skin having crawled up the water iris.

The first extra is a [sadly] out of focus shot of it emerging. The main shot is about 30mins later with its wings pumped up and it resting next to the cast skin, or exuvia, before pumping up the abdomen ready for first flight around an hour or so later (second extra).

Isn't nature wonderful!
