Homeward Bound

Our last evening at sea - and the only time we saw a sunset. Most of the week's sailing took place inside a tiny bubble universe consisting of a small patch of sea surrounded by fog.  We didn't make it to Santa Barbara - the winds were light and contrary, and only the very biggest and fastest boats were quick enough to finish the race - 6 out of 23, I think. We spent a night at Morro Bay, then the winds became strong and contrary for our return trip to San Francisco. But the wildlife sightings included sea otters, common dolphins, Risso's dolphins, humpback whales (slapping their fins and tails to create a bubble net), and a single Laysan albatross, as well as the usual seals, sea lions, sunfish, jellies, petrels, shearwaters, etc.
There was a brief hour of sunshine as we passed Santa Cruz on our final evening - and even a sunset after our (freeze-dried) supper [extras].
