Over The Sea From Skye

Ah well, time to return home... this was our 6th holiday in Skye in the past 20 years, although our first by ourselves. I had been expecting we'd be doing things we'd done before, but we only revisited 2 places. We hadn't stayed in The Braes before, or even been aware of it and I'd definitely stay there again.

After leaving the cottage, we took the ferry route instead via Armadale and Mallaig and were lucky they squeezed us on the one just leaving - we were the last one on!  Lunch was at the Silver Sands of Morar, a gorgeous white sand beach where Arlo played with his frisbee.

Just as we were walking to the car, the steam train that runs from Mallaig to Fort William passed through Morar and after drying our feet we made haste to catch up with the train and arrived at Glenfinnan in time to watch what we thought would be the same train crossing the "Harry Potter" viaduct, when instead a similar steam train crossed it heading north, followed by the other train heading south. The photo is the former, which was lucky because the southband train was going backwards powered by a diesel at the rear, because it is not possible to turn the train around at Mallaig. It's not quite the same going backwards... seeing the steam trains chuffchuff through the glens on the way to Mallaig is just great.

Anyways, home by 9pm, back to life, back to reality, glad we squeezed in a week away at short notice.
