A bird Blip day

This is a Water Rail.

Always lucky to get a chance to photograph one. They are a scarce resident in Summer with about 1,000 pairs in Britain. More common in Winter with about 10,000 visitors.

Even then they are more often heard than seen as they prefer to skulk around in reeds and waterside vegetation.

The extra is the more common Great Spotted Woodpecker.
