Hope

After a few weeks of emailing exchanges and phone calls with various people at the MIND mental health charity, both locally and at HQ tonight, I managed to speak to local training manager who can quickly and flexibly deliver what I think will be the ideal half day course at our rugby club. Hope springs eternal!

The Leaves Of The Trees, by Peter Walker at Southwell Minster is a reflective memorial to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. It comprise 5,000 5ins leaves, each carved with the word HOPE, cut from 1mm mild steel, chosen as the material for the leaves to remind us of our resilience and collective strength. The leaves will slowly change from steel to rusted tones, just as the leaves of trees do when they fall each year.

It also reflects the carvings, from the 13th century, of plants, animals and green men found within the Chapter House – ‘The Leaves of Southwell’ which are soon to be back on display following a major restoration project.
