Life in Sunny Dubai

Busy Thursday

It's been a full-on day right from the start. G took herself to work, so I got on with things in the flat, and then - the new vacuum cleaner that I ordered got delivered a whole day earlier than I was told. Fantastic!

G picked me up and we headed back to Deira City Centre to return a shower hose I bought yesterday. That done, we called in at Wafi to have a coffee at Segafredo, an Italian coffee chain that I really like.

Home for lunch and to unpack and try out the new hoover. There were lots of pieces in the box as it is the top of the range model. (I got it cheap as it is an old, discontinued model.) It's going to take some getting used to, but on first use, it did its job well. G said it was not as noisy as its predecessor. I hope it lasts as long! ;)

We then put on our glad rags and met up with other AWANA leaders for a "thank you" dinner. Petra chose an outlet in Le Meridien Hotel which is across the road from the airport. The restaurant was located in the main building which we don't usually go into. It was great to see it again, looking very smart for a hotel that first opened its doors in the late 70s. Back then it was called Trusthouse Forte and I still remember visiting it on a school trip! In the 90s, it changed its name to Forte Grand, and then later in the decade, there was a worldwide rebranding exercise and it got renamed Le Meridien Dubai. There you go!

Yalumba itself is trendy and spacious and tonight, it was packed as they offer a buffet at a reasonable price with five free glasses of wine for the ladies from 7-11. There wasn't a lot of uptake on that offer from our table! The choice of food was vast and we left wishing we hadn't eaten quite so much. The best thing was Petra bringing a few ice breaker questions to keep the conversation going and also for us to get to know each other!

Glad it is the weekend! :))
