Growing the Blue Poppy

Sometimes we are asked what is the secret to growing meconopsis. So many friends and visitors tell us they have tried and failed with this mysterious Himalayan blue poppy.
 
Well, the only thing I can think of is benign neglect. On the other hand they are in a sheltered, part shady bit of the garden and are not exposed to cold winds. Oh yes the ground is sloping too because they don’t like to get their feet wet.
