Albert Namitjira

We have been out of range for the past two days and this is a BackBlip from Saturday.  It has been a very poignant and yet at the same time uplifting day.  We drove from Alice Springs along the Namitjira drive to Hermannsberg, the birthplace of Albert Namitjira.  We ended up spending almost three hours there and came away with very mixed emotions.  From there we headed west along the road that would take us to Ormiston Gorge for the night.  We could have so easily driven right past it but we noticed a small sign pointing to the house that Albert Namitjira had built.  Another hour later we headed off to the gorge to find safe haven.  I was transfixed by a magnificent red tailed Black Cockatoo who was sitting in a dead tree just to the left of the little house. (See extra) He seemed quite happy to pose for me but refused to show me his glorious red feathers!!  This is a day that will live in my memory forever.  I couldn't help but feel how much happier Australia's first nation people would be today if we had left them to their own way of life and traditions.
