Eagles Really Rock!

For over eight weeks now we have been watching out for the Wedge Tailed Eagles in the hope that we could capture an image of one during our travels.  We have seen dozens of them but none close enough to take a decent image.  Today as we drove the track between Alice Springs and Coober Pedy our wish came true.  We could see a couple of rigs pulled up on the side of the road and as we passed them we could see there were some "Wedgies" actually standing on the ground not too far away and three or four flying above us.  It was the biggest "Stop the Car" moment of all and we tried hard to get a shot without a lot of luck.  As we were about to drive off I noticed an eagle land not far behind us and the other vehicles had moved off.  We edged our way back a little way and then I hopped out of the van with the RX10  and crept up and took an image of the bird standing on the ground.  At that point it flew into a tree about 50 metres away and the wonderful majestic creature allowed me to walk toward it and I got within around 25 metres away.  It was a heart stopping moment and I'm absolutely thrilled to be able to share the image with my blip buddies.
We had a "BIG" drive today of nearly 700 kilometres and arrived in Coober Pedy at around 3.30, that's a reward for getting up super early and heading off before the sun had risen.  We are going to have a really fun day tomorrow working out what this amazing "Underground Town" is all about.  This is really the first day of our trip back to the Blue Mountains and believe me we're going to make the most of every second.  We just love LOVE it out here :)
