Banded Demoiselle

An early morning walk to our local stretch of river, before it became scorchingly hot, yielded a good range of insects including many fluttering Banded Demoiselle damselflies and a positive horde of Scarce Chasers. At one point I watched four males all battling one another near the river margin, though it was a fairly superficial exchange with no injuries sustained. I also spied a small clump of Frogbit in the river, and was serenaded by Blackcap, Cuckoo and Reed Warbler, as well as the plaintive twittering of many baby tits.
