Southern Marsh-orchid

A quick early morning visit to Swaddywell Pit to enjoy the interesting and puzzling range of orchids now in bloom, including both Southern and Early Marsh-orchid, Common Spotted-orchid and several putative hybrids was followed by a very hot walk round a wood in search of butterflies. We saw plenty of Grizzled and Dingy Skippers, and lots of Small Heath, but had no luck with our main target species. But it was a great walk anyway, with the added bonus of an Adder near our parking place.
