The Woodland Garden (Sunday 13th June 2021)

Over winter I rather neglected the birdfeeders, I'm afraid. The birds stopped coming, and when I resumed in the spring they were slow to return, despite the bountiful restaurant of bird foods I laid on for them. They are still rarer than in previous years, although from birdsong they are clearly coming to the garden's trees. The most regular visitors to the feeders are the resident coal tits, great tits and blue tits, the robins and a blackbird that has mastered the technique of flapping wildly whilst clinging to the footrest, but there have been occasional visits from greenfinches and goldfinches. Both were frequent visitors in some numbers two or three years ago, as were the chaffinches, now totally absent.

This is my second goldfinch blip of the year, the first having been taken in Lacock a month or so ago. This was taken through glass in the porch and is a bit 'noisy', digitally speaking.

In Extras is a yellow Turk's Cap Lily (Lilium pyrenaicum) making a reappearance from last year near the pond and irises.
