Horse face

I travelled back to Cambridge via London, and took the day off to wander at leisure. I lay in the sun in Regent’s Park for a while and then went ambling. Seeing the flag flying from the Portuguese embassy reminded me, as everything always does, of how long I’ve been in a strange limbo zone. It’s now two days short of 15 months since I got stuck with Covid and visa complications in the UK, floating between places to stay. It’s been...challenging.

I went through Mayfair and Belgravia, which feel crazily exclusive. I passed by the Still Water sculpture in Hyde Park, as I strolled randomly to end up in Victoria. This horse face is by the sculptor Nic Fiddian-Green, ‘who specialises in making lifelike models of horses' heads, both smaller and larger than life-sized.’ It’s a niche vocation, but one which creates interesting landmarks.
