Native Dogwood

Not the usual type of flowers one sees on a dogwood tree or shrub. This is a "native" with flowers that offer nourishment to all kinds of insects. The purple berries last into the winter for the birds.
Native varieties are recommended for gardens rather than the flashy Japanese or other Asian plants because they offer no nourishment to our local wildlife.
That said, I just planted a Kousa Dogwood tree/shrub that is purely ornamental. The birds and bugs will just ignore the satiny white flowers in June
