Huge spider

This massive spider has been lurking around the house for some time but has never posed so obligingly before, in the light of a lamp. I think it might be a huntsman spider, and therefore a GOOD THING to have around the house!
It feels as if we are being overrun by insects at the moment: this morning I found and removed a mud dauber wasp nest inside a kitchen cupboard (interestingly full of little dead spiders). The garden is full of ants nests, aphids, beetles of all shapes and sizes, locust-like grasshoppers, horseflies and wasps etc, and the apricots are being devoured by fruit fly maggots.  In the evening. the mosquitoes are multiplying and the crickets have started to try and get into the house too. Country life!
