Green Gate Close Kirkcudbright

We started the day off with a Kirkcudbright Art Tour led by Fiona Lee, seeing and learning so much about the artists who came here to paint. Jessie M. King and E.A. Taylor set up a studio. Jessie bought the property in the photo that came with half a dozen cottages behind which she converted to studios for artists. Known as the ‘Greengate Close Coterie’ of predominantly women artists such as Cecile Walton, Anna Hotchkis and Dorothy Johnston.

We followed up the art tour with the Kirkcudbright Galleries excellent exhibition of The Glasgow Boys & Girls. Jessie King is possibly the best known and important of the Glasgow Girls.

Dinner at The Selkirk Arms where Robert Burns lodged around 1794. Although there are conflicting stories many say he wrote The Selkirk Grace at this hotel prior to attending a dinner hosted by the Earl of Selkirk.
