Stripy

A sunny day surveying west of Cambridge, once again including some areas filled with wildflowers  - Ox-eye Daisy, Viper's-bugloss, Hairy Hawkbit and Common Spotted-orchids in abundance, and a couple of Pyramidal Orchids too.

There wasn't a lot of time to stop and look at the insects, but I spotted a Tortoise Bug Eurygaster testudinaria sitting on a Goat's-beard seed-head. The nymphs feed on grasses between May-August, becoming adult from June / July. Previously uncommon, it is now widespread in southern Britain and Ireland in dry and damp grasslands and is expanding its range northwards.

And I also saw my first Marbled White of the year, though it didn't stop to have its photo taken!
