Tasteful....

Brownfield land is often at its most colourful in late June, when swathes of Viper's-bugloss come into bloom, often contrasting perfectly with the yellow of Weld or Biting Stonecrop.

There had clearly been a recent emergence of Small Tortoiseshell at our site, and there were also quite a few Painted Lady, but they were all on the move almost constantly. A few other insects were more obliging, including a baby Great Green Bush-cricket (see extra) and a solitary bee that was resting in a Creeping Buttercup flower.

As a treat we dropped into Woodwalton Marsh NR on our way home, where the Sulphur Clover and Crested Cow-wheat were both looking good.
