Derelict garden with ibis

These are Australian white ibis, picking through the garbage, which clearly sustains them as their numbers are not shrinking. More the opposite.

These birds are not in my childhood memory. They have become established in urban areas on the east coast since the late 1970s, following their gradual disappearance from their natural breeding areas such as the Macquarie Marshes in northern NSW. Because of their proliferation around town and their adaptability to eating our chucked out food, some people call them bin chickens. What can we expect when habitat changes or is destroyed?

These birds enhanced my photo of a derelict scene.

Tonight all residents in the greater Sydney area are in lockdown for two weeks. We popped to the local for a couple of drinks. It was offering free meals as they didn't want to waste the food they couldn't save. We chose to head home and eat home cooked.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske. Stay well all.
