Between fen and mountains

Give us a hand

It was wet again today and I was confined to the shop all day covering sickness. I checked all the clocks on test. This one I repaired the other day. It has a nice dial, perhaps slightly over restored. The hands are typical; making them would have been a trade in itself as they would have to be pierced and cut to shape and then filed to finish. The steel would usually have been heated to produce a blued appearance, itself a very skilful operation. These ones are painted. I can imagine a pair like this being a day's work. The dial maker and dial painter would also have been separate trades.
