Chasing Dragons

I indulged in a outing to Thursley Nature reserve on the hunt for dragonflies today.  Following a devastating fire last summer most of the broadwalks over the boggy areas, which would have been the best hunting grounds, have been destroyed, but there were numerous wet pond areas around the accessible edges with them flitting around.

Despite the reserve being renown for the number of dragonfly species it has (up to 26), I mainly saw four-spotted chasers and just a few damselflies and blue broad-bodied chasers. I suspect (hope!) that most of creatures were relishing the peace and quiet in the now inaccessible parts of the reserve.
