Caged

I was getting fed up with chasing pigeons off the gooseberries, which are cropping well but are not yet ripe. In past years I have stripped the bushes before our holiday, otherwise I would have had no crop and it was some years later that I discovered that, if left to mature, they would grow twice the size and taste sweet, a dessert variety.

I'd already rescued a couple of kilos and I could see there was a lot more still to pick, when we decided it would be best to net them off. Mr Flum made this fruit cage so I no longer need to keep a lookout and run down the garden waving a cudgel.
